The latest on the Spelling Man!

The Spelling Man has now won 8 gold, 3 silvers and 7 bronze medals in Room 14's spelling programme.
The Spelling Man was presented with a certificate of excellence at the WPS assembly by our Deputy Principal, Mr Merchant.
Cody felt like a super heroe having the most golds. He has achieved his goal by having the most golds so far and he hopes to get more silvers and more bronze medals this week.
Fantastic Cody!

Group Day results:

Group Day was tiring for Anna and Jake, because they had to do every event. Jake won high jump, and was 2nd in the 1500m and 800m, and 3rd equal in 200m. He also came 4th in the 400m and 5th in the finals of the 100m.
Olivia came 1st in long jump and she fell over and bruised her tail bone.
Cody didn't go very well, because he came 4th to last - he didn't have any water. He learnt that he needs to drink water to help him win. He was also versing hard people, too.
Jamie-Lee was very frustrated because she was ONE cm away from coming 3rd in shotput!
AJ's first race was the 1500m. He shot out at the start with Jake. He kept his pace up and won by 200m! In the 800m, it was AJ and another boy out at the lead, but at the final sprint, AJ won!
Chris feels pretty good about coming first in the 200m.
Kelsey came 2nd in the 1500m and 2nd in the 800m, and tied for 4th in the 400m.
Dana came 4th in the 800m and she doesn't know where she came in the 1500m. Group Day was exciting, because she was representing her school.

The Spelling Man Returns

The Spelling Man has now got 6 golds, 3 silvers and 7 bronze. Cody has been on target since his last update, and next week he hopes to improve by winning more silver, gold and bronze medals.
Good luck, Cody!

We won 5-a-side soccer!

Last night our 5-a-side soccer team beat the Waiuku Primary School Rovers 2-0! Hamish scored both goals and Cody missed a lot of goals.
It was great to win becasue we are the only unbeaten team.
Chris plays goalie and he only had a couple of shots coming at him, and he saved them all.
One of the girls in the other team scored, but it was inside the D, so it didn't count - Chris nearly got to it though!

Spelling Man!

Since joining Room 14 at the beginning of Term 3, Cody has been doing his spelling and has got 1 gold medal, 2 silver medals and 4 bronze medals.

Cody writes fast and neat, and aims to be the first one to finish. Since he got 4 bronze, Cody wants to get 2 more silvers and 3 more golds.

His strategy is to get to class and start to spelling before school, and hopefully to get first.

Good luck Cody!

5-aside Soccer

Last night we won 4-1 against Waiau Pa. In our first game we won 5-2 from Travis' own goal when he tried to head it away, it went into the back of the net.
Chris is our keeper and we don't really have positions in the outfield. We swap around so its fair, so everyone gets a turn to strike.
Some of the rules are that if you are the keeper, you can't kick the ball over halfway without it bouncing in your own half.
Another rule is that there are no throw-ins, only kicks, and you can't score from your own half or inside the D.
Our next game is against WPS Tom and MacKenzies' Rovers and we expect to win.

Testing!

We have started testing to gather data for reporting back to whanau later this term and some interesting results have started to come through.
So far Room 14 has completed the IKAN test (Maths knowledge) and Basic Facts test.
IKAN results:
Arabella and Chris both scored a massive Stage 8 (the highest stage) jumping 2 Stage levels - they are expected to be at Stage 6!
Zyra, Eleanor, Kelsey, Jake and Scott jumped one Stage to reach Stage 6. The remainder of the class maintained their levels from the beginning of the year.
Basic Facts results:
Arabella jumped 3 sub-levels and scored 4A! Sophie and AJ improved 2 sub-levels and scored 3P.
Scott and Eleanor both moved up 1 sub-level, while Jaime-Lee, Tom, Jake, and Cody remained sitting comfortably on 4A.
At Year 6 the children are expected to be at Level 3, while at Year 8 they should be at Level 4, so for our Year 7's at this stage of the year, they should at least be sitting on 3A ready to move into 4B.
Remember that Basic Facts is a weekly homework activity that students so be doing, along with a minimum of 1 hour per week on Mathletics.

Future House

This is what our house is going to look like in the future. This took us an hour and 15 minutes to build, after maths. It has 2 swimming pools and a jacuzzi, a movie theatre, a diving pool with a bungy jump, and an ice-cream truck, the world's biggest burger and a fireplace. There are 3 massive bedrooms and only one bathroom, because we ran out of blocks. We had a kitchen and a stadium.

Gandhi was brave and a genius!

Mahatma Gandhi used passive resistance or non-violent techniques to get the British supremacy out of India. Gandhi got out of India, the most powerful country of the time, without using a gun!
He was courageous, persistent, brave, determined, tenacious, kind-hearted, a lawyer, educated, intelligent, legendary, visionary and disciplined. He was also a vegetarian.
Gandhi showed us that we don’t need to fight back and shoot people, that we don’t need wars, we can talk. He is inspirational to us and we still remember him now as the ‘Man of the Millennium’.
Cody says that Gandhi dressed like the poor people and ate with them, and looked like them. I would like to be brave like him.

2 New Students!

Room 14 welcomes Cody and Taine who have joined us from Room 8. We wish them a happy and successful 2nd half of the year!
They say that this is a good idea because people in this class have higher grades and it's the best class!
