Jake and AJ's amazing races!
1500m was the first race at Zone yesterday. Jake and AJ had 6 other people in the race. For the first 3 laps, AJ was ahead the whole time with Jake about 20 metres behind and on the last straight Jake caught up another 10 metres but AJ won!
The last race of the day and the BEST race of the day was the 800m. AJ and Jake were up against 5 other people. AJ was winning by 3 metres over Jake over the first one and a half laps, and then Jake caught up and passed AJ. But on the final 50 metres, it came down to a good sprint between the two boys and AJ won by a dive! How exciting!
Jake and AJ's successes mean that they go on to the Auckland Champions of Champions at Mt Smart Stadium next week - Go boys!

R14'ers go to Zone Day:
Group Day results:
Group Day was tiring for Anna and Jake, because they had to do every event. Jake won high jump, and was 2nd in the 1500m and 800m, and 3rd equal in 200m. He also came 4th in the 400m and 5th in the finals of the 100m.
Olivia came 1st in long jump and she fell over and bruised her tail bone.
Cody didn't go very well, because he came 4th to last - he didn't have any water. He learnt that he needs to drink water to help him win. He was also versing hard people, too.
Jamie-Lee was very frustrated because she was ONE cm away from coming 3rd in shotput!
AJ's first race was the 1500m. He shot out at the start with Jake. He kept his pace up and won by 200m! In the 800m, it was AJ and another boy out at the lead, but at the final sprint, AJ won!
Chris feels pretty good about coming first in the 200m.
Kelsey came 2nd in the 1500m and 2nd in the 800m, and tied for 4th in the 400m.
Dana came 4th in the 800m and she doesn't know where she came in the 1500m. Group Day was exciting, because she was representing her school.

Testing!
We have started testing to gather data for reporting back to whanau later this term and some interesting results have started to come through.
So far Room 14 has completed the IKAN test (Maths knowledge) and Basic Facts test.
IKAN results:
Arabella and Chris both scored a massive Stage 8 (the highest stage) jumping 2 Stage levels - they are expected to be at Stage 6!
Zyra, Eleanor, Kelsey, Jake and Scott jumped one Stage to reach Stage 6. The remainder of the class maintained their levels from the beginning of the year.
Basic Facts results:
Arabella jumped 3 sub-levels and scored 4A! Sophie and AJ improved 2 sub-levels and scored 3P.
Scott and Eleanor both moved up 1 sub-level, while Jaime-Lee, Tom, Jake, and Cody remained sitting comfortably on 4A.
At Year 6 the children are expected to be at Level 3, while at Year 8 they should be at Level 4, so for our Year 7's at this stage of the year, they should at least be sitting on 3A ready to move into 4B.
Remember that Basic Facts is a weekly homework activity that students so be doing, along with a minimum of 1 hour per week on Mathletics.

3rd Place Getters!
In the holidays, we came 3rd in the Weir Rosebowl Tournament. Auckland teams came 1st, 2nd and 3rd! We versed Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Northland, Waitakere, Waikato/BOP, and the top Auckland team.
I scored a goal playing against Northland - I was proud of myself, because we needed to win, and the other goal was a fluke. We lost 1-0 to the top Auckland team, who took out the cup.
We stayed at St Kentigens Boarding School - it was cool because we all got to be together after the games, and I'm a better soccer player now.
I'm the only boy from Waiuku to make it ever into the Auckland Football Federation. This was my goal for last year, and also to get Player of the Year cup from for my whole club, which I achieved.
At the moment, I'm going to athletics, touch and tennis. My goal is to get fitter and make it again into the Auckland soccer team next year.

Jake is an Auckland Soccer Rep!
I am in the Auckland rep team called 'The Strikers' in soccer. There is a big tournament up in Auckland from Tuesday 27th September till Friday 1st Octber 2010. We are versing regional teams and we will be sleeping in dorms for 4 nights, where we are playing. We will be versing Wellington and other regions.
I play centre forward, because I'm a good shooter. I was training with a team lower than me, called 'The Stars'. I didn't know that I was in 'The Strikers' till yesterday. I was proud of myself to make it into a higher team and to go to the tournament.
We had a friendly against The Bay of Plenty in Pukekohe last Sunday and we beat them 2-1!
