Tom speaks about his massive spelling achievements!

At the beginning of the year, Tom was getting 32% Tricky spelling words correct and now he has been re-tested and he spelt the 127 words correctly. That's worth 100% but doesn't count for the official results because it was a re-test.
Next year, when Tom is re-tested he is hoping to get 100% again.
Tom thought that his spelling sucked at the beginning of the year, now he has improved and he is as good as most of the rest of the class. Now he feels a lot more confident about spelling.
Go Tom!

Tom's massive spelling achievements!

Tom has had a massive improvement in his spelling this year. When he comes back from road patrol training, he will tell you all about it!

The NEW Tom!

Miss Harris commented that Tom's behaviour and attitude has improved a lot since the beginning of the year. Ms Clydesdale says 'Well done' because Tom has worked really hard to improve his behaviour and attitude, and other teachers have noticed the improvement too!

Go Tom!

Future for filming kids

About 12 o'clock on Thursday 4th November 2010 Teresa from the Franklin County News surprised us with a visit about our Gareth Kean video. She interviewed us and took some photos.
We told her about our roles and the steps - scriptwriting, making props, practising, filming and lastly editing all the parts together to make the movie.
We are excited and overwhelmed that our group was chosen.

Testing!

We have started testing to gather data for reporting back to whanau later this term and some interesting results have started to come through.
So far Room 14 has completed the IKAN test (Maths knowledge) and Basic Facts test.
IKAN results:
Arabella and Chris both scored a massive Stage 8 (the highest stage) jumping 2 Stage levels - they are expected to be at Stage 6!
Zyra, Eleanor, Kelsey, Jake and Scott jumped one Stage to reach Stage 6. The remainder of the class maintained their levels from the beginning of the year.
Basic Facts results:
Arabella jumped 3 sub-levels and scored 4A! Sophie and AJ improved 2 sub-levels and scored 3P.
Scott and Eleanor both moved up 1 sub-level, while Jaime-Lee, Tom, Jake, and Cody remained sitting comfortably on 4A.
At Year 6 the children are expected to be at Level 3, while at Year 8 they should be at Level 4, so for our Year 7's at this stage of the year, they should at least be sitting on 3A ready to move into 4B.
Remember that Basic Facts is a weekly homework activity that students so be doing, along with a minimum of 1 hour per week on Mathletics.

Menu for Elite Swimmers

Tom says that elite swimmers need to be careful about what they eat, so they don't go fat and sink!
They need to eat loads of fruit, protein including eggs. Swimmers could mix together half Powerade with half water.
Carbohydrates, like chocolate, pasta, and energy drinks, etc, are important so that you can perform at your best.

The Commonwealth Games Matrix

We have to complete 60 points from 48 tasks in the Commonwealth Games matrix. We can score 1 - 6 points depending how difficult the task is.
We can do it out of school time and that's good because we will probably finish quicker and complete more tasks.

Tom's BIG jump!

I am surprised that I went up 2 whole levels in my persuasive writing in two terms. Now I'm working at a 4P level and I was working at a 2A level. When 3 teachers were marking my writing, they started laughing - I feel pleased that I got my own teacher laughing and 2 others.

I reckon I improved because I practise twice a week at home, and at school we have practised to do paragraphs, punctuation and use Martion Luther King as an exemplar.

Here is the start of my persuasive writing:

In 2011 the Year 7's should go on the great Awhitu Camp, becasue it's just great. You get away from nagging parents and the teachers stop being bossy.
