Maths Magicians!

Jaimee says that: Last week Ms Clydesdale told us we were quite behind on our maths work, so Jamie-Lee, Dana and I decided that we should take our maths home and do it there.
In the weekend, I did five pages of maths and so did Dana. Jamie-Lee had started doing her maths at home a bit earlier than Dana and I, so when we finish our maths and bring it into school, she marks it for us.
My dad wondered what I was doing, and he looked at my book and looking through the pages and he and my mum said that they were very proud of me, and so did Ms Clydesdale.
I am very proud of myself, too!

Group Day results:

Group Day was tiring for Anna and Jake, because they had to do every event. Jake won high jump, and was 2nd in the 1500m and 800m, and 3rd equal in 200m. He also came 4th in the 400m and 5th in the finals of the 100m.
Olivia came 1st in long jump and she fell over and bruised her tail bone.
Cody didn't go very well, because he came 4th to last - he didn't have any water. He learnt that he needs to drink water to help him win. He was also versing hard people, too.
Jamie-Lee was very frustrated because she was ONE cm away from coming 3rd in shotput!
AJ's first race was the 1500m. He shot out at the start with Jake. He kept his pace up and won by 200m! In the 800m, it was AJ and another boy out at the lead, but at the final sprint, AJ won!
Chris feels pretty good about coming first in the 200m.
Kelsey came 2nd in the 1500m and 2nd in the 800m, and tied for 4th in the 400m.
Dana came 4th in the 800m and she doesn't know where she came in the 1500m. Group Day was exciting, because she was representing her school.

Sarcomere inhomogeneity is increased in failing cardiac trabeculae

Today, we had a special visit from a scientist named Alex Anderson. He uses rats and a special chemical to kill them. He then uses muscles from the rat to find out how the muscle reacts if he puts chemicals with the muscle. He has a really interesting job. He gets to work with lots of interesting pieces of equipment like lasers and microscopes that zoom in closer than a cell.
His dream experiment would be to design and build a robotic arm that is controlled by the brain and the nervous system.

Science excites Students

Room 14 and Room 8 have been learning about Science and we've been split into groups of 4 to carry out the experiments.
Dana is writing up her results for making gloop and Olivia is using pulleys to lift weights.
It's interesting and exciting at the same time.

Athletic Champions

Tuesday next week, 10 students from Room 14 are going to Athletics Group Day at Sandspit School.
We are versing all different schools in Waiuku. Our goal is to get to Zone Day for some of the events.
Anna and Jake are in every event that is available. Jake wants to go to Zone Day for at least half of the events, and Anna wants to go to Zone Day for the 800m and long jump.
Good luck Room 14'ers!

We won 5-a-side soccer!

Last night our 5-a-side soccer team beat the Waiuku Primary School Rovers 2-0! Hamish scored both goals and Cody missed a lot of goals.
It was great to win becasue we are the only unbeaten team.
Chris plays goalie and he only had a couple of shots coming at him, and he saved them all.
One of the girls in the other team scored, but it was inside the D, so it didn't count - Chris nearly got to it though!

5-aside Soccer

Last night we won 4-1 against Waiau Pa. In our first game we won 5-2 from Travis' own goal when he tried to head it away, it went into the back of the net.
Chris is our keeper and we don't really have positions in the outfield. We swap around so its fair, so everyone gets a turn to strike.
Some of the rules are that if you are the keeper, you can't kick the ball over halfway without it bouncing in your own half.
Another rule is that there are no throw-ins, only kicks, and you can't score from your own half or inside the D.
Our next game is against WPS Tom and MacKenzies' Rovers and we expect to win.

R8 & 14 WPS Art Festival Winners

The decision of how to award the certificates to for the WPS Art Festival was very tough with some R8 & 14 students having as many as 10 pieces of work on display!
Congratulations to the following students received awards for their prints:

Chanel - cardboard prints
Andrew - cardboard print
Savannah - sponge print
Zyra - string print series
Abbie - string print series
Grace - screen print
Anna - screen print
Dana - Kupesi
Hamish - Kupesi
Jamie-Lee - leaf print

WPS Art Festival

Last term, we have been doing our ordinary art (Printmaking) and we have selected some outstanding pieces of art to go on the big wall at the end of the hall, to be displayed to the public.
The exhibition opened this afternoon at 2.30pm.
We learnt different printmaking techniques and styles. We made string blocks, cardboard stamps, kupesi, junk prints, leaf prints, screen prints and scraper prints.
Each week, we rotated between Whaea Josie and Ms Clydesdale. We learnt a lot of different types of printmaking, which was interesting and fun, and our art work improved.
Jamie-Lee's art has improved and she learnt to take her time so her art was better quality. Dana learnt that art is really fun, and if we do really well with art now, you could be an artist when you are older.
Some lucky people made lithographs with professional artist, John Pusateri.

Dana wins the WPS Learning Trophy

I have won the WPS Learning Trophy because I work well and always finish my work ahead of time to a very high standard.

Ms Clydesdale said that I'm always first to finish stuff and I set the pace for everyone to copy!

I feel happy that all my good work is recognised.

Future House

This is what our house is going to look like in the future. This took us an hour and 15 minutes to build, after maths. It has 2 swimming pools and a jacuzzi, a movie theatre, a diving pool with a bungy jump, and an ice-cream truck, the world's biggest burger and a fireplace. There are 3 massive bedrooms and only one bathroom, because we ran out of blocks. We had a kitchen and a stadium.

Farewell Shay!

Hi Shay.

We already miss you and hope you have had a good flight!

We haven't got used to not having you around, but you will always be with us in our hearts. We miss your smile and your laugh, and your pretty curly hair!

We hope you pick up the language super fast and enjoy your new school, and make lots of new friends.

Come and visit us in the holidays.

Group Day here we come!

Yesterday, we participated in the school's cross-country and out of the Year 7 girls, Kelsey was first, Anna was second, Dana was third and Eleanor was fourth - all these brilliant runners are from the one and only Room 14!

This means that we qualify to represent Waiuku Primary at Group Day.

We had to do 3 laps around the school and we were absolutely puffed!

Caricature Dana

We found a really cool website that we can design a person who looks like us, and this is me and I look pretty (and in real life, too!).
